I Have a Dream: Game challenge

This game was very difficult for me to think of, but I think I did okay…

This game was about having or not having a dream career. If you rolled a 4-6 on a six sided die you would remain in your dream career and move forward, if you rolled a 1-3 you had a midlife crisis and had to move backward instead.

Here are the rules:

I Have a Dream:

Contents:

Career cards

2 6-sided die

1 game board

Set up:

Each player will choose a token and roll one die.

The person who rolls the highest number goes first.

Put the game board on a flat surface, placing the cards in their corresponding spots.

Each player will put his game piece on Go and start the game.

Career cards:

Each card will contain a career title.

After drawing a career card the player will roll one six-sided die to determine if the card is a dream career or a nightmare career.

Roll:

1-3 = nightmare career

4-6 = dream career

Then the player will roll both die to determine the amount of spaces they get to move.

If they have a dream career they move forward the amount of spaces shown on the die.

If they have a nightmare career they move backward the amount of spaces shown on the die.

Winning the game:

The player who reaches the top of the corporate ladder first wins.

  1. Elizabeth,

Interesting concept with the ‘dream job.’ An interesting thing with your design is that there is a 50/50 chance the player will move forward or back. However, the net value of moving forward is greater than moving back, so players are not likely to lose the space they moved forward (-6 for nightmare; +15 for dream).

Your logic suggests we are always moving forward in life and that our nightmare careers are only setbacks! I enjoy this optimist message your game produces.

  2. I thought this game was interesting :) I liked that there were so many jobs that you could have, it really opened up the game play for more variation. I liked that you chose to make a dice roll determine if it was going to be a Nightmare Job or a Dream Job. :D It made some of the jobs funny to see how people would react. Good job! :D
